 About Spolia:

Spolia is a new publication founded by members of Durham Archaeology Society, but we will be publishing informative articles around several subjects similar to archaeology such as Anthropology and Classics to name a few. The publication will feature writing from Durham University Students, giving a student perspective on what we are taught by our lecturers.

The word Spolia in archaeology means when there is evidence of repurposing of stone or decorative structures in new buildings or monuments. This relates to one of the main aims of this publication, to revisit our academic essays and make them more comprehensible, much like the repurposing seen in the archaeological record itself. We hope by doing this readers can learn about many niches that interest them within short, readable articles.

We're looking for submissions that are around 500 words in length with all your references! You can submit your work through this site or send it through Facebook for us to post! We hope you'll get involved!
